North Carolina State University. NC State University was founded in 1887 as a land grant institution in Raleigh. A nationally recognized leader in science and technology with historic strengths in agriculture and engineering, NC State provides a high-quality education in the humanities and social sciences, design, education, life sciences, management, natural resources, physical and mathematical sciences, textiles and veterinary medicine. Bachelor’s degrees are offered in 102 fields, master’s degrees in 108 fields and doctoral degrees in 60 fields, as well as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine. Despite being one of the youngest programs in the country, the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine in Raleigh is ranked in the top five among the nation’s 28 veterinary colleges by U.S. News and World Report. Degrees offered include a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM); Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative Biomedical Sciences, Immunology, and Physiology; Master of Veterinary Public Health; and Master of Specialized Veterinary Medicine. The College involves some 140 faculty, 370 staff members, and enrolls approximately 300 DVM students, 85 graduate students, and 60 interns and residents. Meredith College. Meredith College in Raleigh was chartered in 1891.
